The Next Step, Part One

April 24th, 2008

(This post is part one of two on the MBTI Step II test. Part one provides a quick review of MBTI personality theory and my experience with taking the test. Part two will be an in-depth post on the test itself.)

It’s been awhile since I made a post on MBTI personality theory, and I always meant to do a follow-up. If you haven’t heard of MBTI before, or read that Wikipedia link (or my previous post), I recommend doing so now, since this post will be easier to understand if you know a bit about MBTI

Eyes on the Prize, Part Two

April 18th, 2008

(This week is the second of a two-part post on the data-sharing site “Many Eyes”. If you haven’t, you should definitely read part one (about the site’s visualizations) first. This week, by contrast, is going to be about the specifics of those visualizations and the datasets I uploaded.

This two-part post is also the third in a series on data-sharing websites. Here are parts one and two of that series.)

Now that you understand a bit more about the (many) types of data visualizations Many Eyes has to offer, we’ll get into them more in-depth and discuss the process of uploading

Eyes on the Prize, Part One

April 11th, 2008

(This week is the first of a two-part post on the data sharing site “Many Eyes”. It was such a big site with so much content that I had to break this post into two parts to make it manageable. In part one, I’ll cover general trends with an overview. In part two, I’ll upload a couple of datasets to talk about, and describe more specific findings.

This post is also the third in a series on data-sharing websites. Here are parts one and two of that series.)

“Many Eyes” is a data-sharing and visualization website, a result

A Turn For the Worse?

April 4th, 2008

My friend Dan and I are a bit obsessive about traffic. We may not discuss “three phase traffic theory” over lunch, but we’ve definitely discussed this traffic site on more than one occasion, which describes how to break up traffic jams through careful driving. I’ve tested out its advice a few times, and even by yourself it definitely works. (However, if you try out that method be prepared for some angry drivers who think you’re just driving like a grandma. It may lower your speed even more than usual, so it’s not for the impatient.)

Anyway, that’s not
