Overworked

November 7th, 2008

I started my new job today and I’m so drained that I’m in no condition to blog. Hopefully I can get something out next week. See you then!

Brief Delay

October 30th, 2008

My editor is at Halloween Horror Nights tonight. So even though tonight’s post is ready to go, I’d really rather have him look at it before I post it. I should be able to post this on Saturday (the first chance he’ll have to look at it). I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer.

It could’ve been worse. Had the Rays won last night, I would have had tickets to tonight’s World Series game and no idea where I’d get time to finish this post

Time Off

October 23rd, 2008

Things have been super crazy for me lately. First of all, I accepted a new job. Second, I went to the Rays game last night (I’m a Tampa Bay native) and stayed out way past my bedtime. Third, I had to go to the dentist today and I have to go to the doctor early tomorrow. So much stuff has been happening and I’ve been so busy it’s crazy. All I can do is get some sleep and try again next week, when hopefully things will be calmer. Sorry about all the delays, people.

Here’s

Rays of Light

October 17th, 2008

Between picking up my new car, the Tampa Bay Rays playing to be in the World Series, and being incredibly busy, I regret that I did not have time to write tonight’s post. I should definitely be back with part two of my Gaming survey post next week.

Go Rays! (Don’t lose…)

For some data to tide you over, check out the marvelous release of the New York Times of their API. Now you can get convenient, aggregated campaign finance data for perhaps the first time. Good stuff!

Time Off

October 2nd, 2008

Well, this week things have been pretty crazy. My editor is sick. On top of that, when I tried to do some hardcore predictive modeling on my turn signal dataset, I found out there wasn’t much of an overall predictive pattern in the data, no matter what model I used.

The data modeling I was doing was in a program called Rattle. Rattle is a superb open source front-end for the equally open source statistics program (and programming language) R, which I briefly mentioned in this post. In that post I mention a really great class

Posting Postponed

September 11th, 2008

Well, folks, tonight’s post on earplugs suddenly required a lot more research than I’d planned. I have most of the information ready to go, but if I start writing it now, I might keep my “Ed-itor” up all night. So I will most likely finish up this post and get it out the door this weekend.

In the meantime, here’s a link I’d been meaning to put up here anyway. It’s a story from The Economist, the content of which is interesting enough in its own right. However, it’s the poll they cite in the story that

Slow Movin’ MCs Is Waiting for the Editin’

August 15th, 2008

Tonight’s post is ready to go, but my brother won’t be able to edit it until late. So, I’ll just put it up early this morning. Sorry about that. The semi-relevant title of this post is from the Wu-Tang rapper GZA’s song “Duel of the Iron Mic”. Be back in a few hours!

Flight of Fancy

August 7th, 2008

Well, this week I’ll be out-of-town for the third straight weekend in a row. The last two weekends I’ve been able to post despite this, but it’s finally all catching up with me. I also have to pack more than usual this week, and get up super early for a flight. I got about halfway through a post this week but I’m just running out of time. Sorry folks, you’ll have to wait until next week.

In the meantime, feel free to check out this Google Tech Talk I came across. (I talked about Google Tech

Running on Empty

June 26th, 2008

I apologize, folks. As I’ve been doing all too often lately, I have to delay tonight’s post until the weekend or next week. I have to work on a personal project that’s every bit as involved as anything I’ve done for the site. Starting next week the posting schedule should be more regular, though.

Totally Tubular

June 12th, 2008

I’m currently updating with a tube up my nose (for yet another study in my ongoing travails with GERD), and obviously it’s a little distracting. Sorry for those who were expecting an update, I’m not feeling so great. As soon as they get this tube out of my nose tomorrow I’m sure I’ll be able to focus better. I’m aiming to post this weekend.
